On July 5<\/strong>, we celebrate the liturgical memorial of Saint Maria Goretti<\/strong>, the martyr of purity, who in 1902 gave her life at the age of eleven to preserve her spiritual and bodily integrity. On this feast, we remember not only the Italian saint honored by the universal Church, but we also continue our preparation for the beatification of B\u00f3di M\u00e1ria Magdolna<\/strong>, which will take place on September 6<\/strong> in the Archdiocese of Veszpr\u00e9m.<\/p>\n

This year is especially significant, as 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of B\u00f3di Magdi\u2019s heavenly birth<\/strong>. The \u201cMagdi 80<\/strong>\u201d commemorative year invites the faithful to spiritual and cultural deepening through a variety of events: liturgies, prayerful gatherings, video series, community campaigns, exhibitions, and discussions. The martyr of purity continues to speak to us\u2014just as she has done quietly yet steadfastly for the past eight decades.<\/p>\n

As part of this year\u2019s commemorations, the Veszpr\u00e9m Archdiocesan Tourism Center<\/strong> is organizing a thematic weekend on July 5\u20136, 2025<\/strong>, under the title \u201cOur Own Goretti Maria\u201d<\/strong> at the Bir\u00f3-Giczey House<\/strong>. The program includes guided tours<\/strong> that highlight the parallels between the lives of Saint Maria Goretti and B\u00f3di Magdi, helping participants understand why so many regard them as spiritual sisters. A special feature of the weekend is the \u201cMagdi Tour\u201d<\/strong>, an interactive treasure hunt and code-breaking game<\/strong> that brings participants closer to Magdi\u2019s life, personality, and faith in an engaging way. Both individuals and teams can take part, and those who solve the puzzles can look forward to a surprise reward.<\/p>\n

The stories of Magdi and Goretti have been intertwined since the 1940s. In 1948, The Heart<\/em> (A Sz\u00edv) magazine wrote: \u201cFor them, purity is more than life itself.\u201d<\/strong> Due to the political climate of the time, the article could not speak openly about Magdi\u2019s martyrdom, but it gently hinted at the connection. Later, Father Mikl\u00f3s Galambos<\/strong> helped deepen the link between the two cults. As Father L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Mark\u00f3ja<\/strong>, then assistant priest of the Church of Saint Margaret of the \u00c1rp\u00e1d House in Veszpr\u00e9m, once said of Magdi: \u201cWe, too, have our own little Maria Goretti.\u201d<\/strong> Today, this statement has taken on a prophetic meaning.<\/p>\n
